The toughest Eredivisie players to beat in a duel

Football is definitely a contact sport. While some players are rather known for their diving skills, others are known for their ruthless playing style. Players like Sergio Ramos, Gennaro Gatusso, and Jaap Stam made themselves a name by a hard and physical playing style. How about the current Eredivisie players? In this week’s blog: Eredivisie’s most duel-winning players.

Bart Vriends – Sparta Rotterdam

Despite his name and friendly appearance outside the pitch during interviews and in his weekly podcast, the thirty-year-old central defender of Sparta Rotterdam does not avoid any duels on the pitch. In fact, he wins most of them. With a winning rate of 80,53%, Vriends wins the most duels in the Eredivisie this season so far.

Olivier Boscagli – PSV

Boscagli is one of the reasons that PSV is on top of the league at the moment. Not only with his passing-, but also with his defensive skills. This season he is currently claiming the second spot with a duel winning percentage of 79,44%, and with his 24 years of age, there may be way more to come.

Danilho Doekhi – Vitesse

The only 23-years-old central defender of Vitesse is impressing with his physical power this season. With a duel winning rate of 75,89%, it is no wonder that some bigger clubs, like PSV or Glasgow Rangers, seem to be interested in signing the 1,90-meter-tall defender.

Jordan Teze – PSV

Another young player on the list. This 22-year-old Dutchman first played a lot as a centre-back, but PSV-coach Roger Schmidt transformed him into a right-back. In this position his defensive skills are impressive and with a percentage of 75,81 of the physical duels that he won, he comes in with the 4th spot of the league.

Nikolaos Michelis – Willem II

This 20-year-old Greek joined Willem II this summer on a loan deal from AC Milan. The left-footed centre-back immediately shows that the Italian superclub taught him the Italian way of defending. With 74,51% of winning his duels, the youngster claims a spot in the top-5.
