The biggest talents of the Championship

The second division of England is known as a very tough league. Every year three teams from the Premier League get relegated to the Championship and every team wants to promote again as soon as possible because every year played in the Championship means a miss out of lots of millions of pounds. The regular season takes 46 games and some teams enter the play-offs for promotion after that. Safe to say that it is physically a heavy year for all players, but maybe even more for young players.

But this physicality and loads of games in a year brought some very great players in the past. Think about Gareth Bale or Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who both played for Southampton or Aaron Ramsey who played for Cardiff City. In the regular Championship season, there are some big talents as well, and we set up a top three, based on Player Level.

Fabio Carvalho – Fulham

This 19-year old Englishman with Portuguese roots made his debut for Fulham in the 20/21 season. Back then, Fulham was still in the Premier League. This year he became a starter for the Cottagers and made an impact with eight goals and three assists in 17 matches. The right-footed attacking midfielder is a youth product from Fulham and also already played 6 matches for the England U18 national team. If he keeps progressing as he does now, a call-up for the English squad isn’t too far away in a few years. With a Player Level of 2717, he tops the league for U21 players.

Levi Colwill – Huddersfield Town

Levi Colwill is a central defender who has spent his youth at the Chelsea academy. Huddersfield Town signed the player on a one-year loan deal. In his first season as a professional player, he is rarely missing a minute, which is extra special regarding his age of 18 years old. This is the main reason why Chelsea is thinking about already returning him back to London during this winter. With a Player Level of 2526, Levi Colwill is definitely someone to keep an eye on for the upcoming year.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis – Stoke City

Another central defender in the top-3. This 19-year old Englishman joined the Manchester City academy in 2008 until Blackburn Rovers showed up and wanted to sign him on a half-year loan deal in February 2021. In half a year, he quickly became a starter for Blackburn, who ended the season in the 15th spot on the league table. After this loan deal, Harwood-Bellis joined Belgium title contender RSC Anderlecht, again for half a year. At Anderlecht, he was a regular starter and developed by playing many minutes.

Back at Manchester City, Stoke City was the next club that was interested in the 1,88-meter long defender, due to the injury of star player Harry Souttar. He joined Stoke on another half-year loan deal. With a Player Level of 2363, he completes this top three.
